Singapore, Jan. 25 -- About half of the Singaporean children who are homeschooled make the switch to national schools, new figures show.

The figures refer to children who join primary schools or enter secondary schools after a period of homeschooling. They also include those who enrol in primary schools after not meeting the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) benchmark set for them by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

About 40 homeschooled children take the PSLE every year, a requirement to ensure they "receive a common core of knowledge", said the MOE. They need to meet a benchmark set by the MOE, "pegged at the 33rd percentile of all students who took four standard-level subjects in the PSLE in that same year".
