BEIJING, March 20 -- Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said China would safeguard Pakistan's territorial integrity and urged countries not to target that country on terrorism.

"No matter how things change in the world and in the region, China will firmly support Pakistan in upholding its sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and dignity," Wang said.

Wang made the comments after he met his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the framework of the first China-Pakistan strategic dialogue in Beijing, a week after China blocked a resolution at the United Nations to designate Masood Azhar, head of the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, as an international terrorist.
