New Delhi, April 2 -- Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), a regional organization linking South and Southeast Asia whose sixth summit is scheduled to take place in Bangkok on April 6, has emerged from the shadows of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation's (SAARC) failure. This organization, comprising seven countries from South and Southeast Asia, is now seen as an effective and alternative model for future regional cooperation.
