France, Feb. 18 -- Despite enduring five months of imprisonment in 2024, environmental activist Paul Watson remains more determined than ever to combat illegal whaling. Recently granted honorary citizenship by the city of Paris, he eagerly anticipates sharing his message at the UN Ocean Summit in Nice this June.

Upon being awarded honorary citizenship by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo on 3 February, the American-Canadian activist said that he was "proud and honoured" to be "associated with a city where the modern debate on climate change began." He also pointed out that "nothing is achieved without taking risks."
