France, Aug. 7 -- French President EmmanuelMacron has asked his government to tighten visa requirements for Algeriandiplomats, as the diplomatic crisis over the deportation of Algerian nationalsescalates.
In a letter to Prime MinisterFrancois Bayrou, published by Le Figaro newspaperon Wednesday, Macron said the growing difficulties thatFranceis encountering in terms of migration and security withAlgeriarequired a tougher stance against the former French colony.
Macron requested that Foreign MinisterJean-Noel Barrotofficially notify Algeria of the suspension of a 2013 agreement that exempted diplomatic and official passport holders from visa requirements.
