France, Oct. 2 -- Jane Goodall, the British primatologist whose pioneering research transformed humanity's understanding of chimpanzees and who went on to become one of the world's most influential voices for nature, has died aged 91, her institute announced on Wednesday.

Goodall "passed away of natural causes" while in California during a speaking tour of the United States, the Jane Goodall Institute said in a statement on social media.
