France, Oct. 7 -- A homage will take place at the headquarters of the French Foreign Ministry in Paris on Tuesday to commemorate the 51 French citizens killed on 7 October 2023 in attacks carried out by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas or during their captivity in Gaza.

"We owe it to them," French foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot told French broadcaster France Interon Monday.

The attack resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to a tally compiled by the French news agency AFP from official data.

Of the 251 people kidnapped that day, 48 are still being held hostage in Gaza, 25 of whom are dead, according to the Israeli army.
