Zero-waste repowering: RWE commissions its Muel wind farm in Aragon
Spain, Dec. 10 -- RWE has commissioned its new Muel wind farm, located in the Aragon region near Zaragoza, Spain. Within just eight months, 27 wind turbines (Nordtank 600KW) with a combined capacity of 16.2 megawatts (MW) were dismantled and replaced by three modern turbines (Nordex N163/6.X) with a total capacity of 19.97 MW. The use of more powerful turbines will more than double production from a calculated 9,400 to 21,000 Spanish households supplied - and that with the same grid connection. As 99.82% of the materials of the old wind farm have been recovered or recycled, the project has received the ZeroWaste certificate from the independent Bureau Veritas Group.
