France, Dec. 11 -- Thales has won a prestigious Business Innovation Award from the Institute of Physics for its innovative solid-state laser. The technology is optimised for use in high performance laser rangefinders, which provide reliable distance measurement on the battlefield.The innovation combines a novel diode-pumped, solid-state laser design with telecoms style manufacturing processes, which enables the high performance required by armed forces, while also providing a compact design, high reliability and an extended lifespan for the technology.Initial funding for development was provided by Innovate UK in 2015 and, since then, the laser rangefinder has formed an important component of Thales' sensors, which can be found on vehicles ...
