Japan, Oct. 27 -- Sumitomo Corporation and Nippon Sharyo, Ltd. have been awarded a contract by MRT Jakarta (MRTJ), a company funded by the Special Capital Region of Jakarta , for 48 subway cars for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) North-South Line Phase 2A. The contract is valued at approximately 17 billion yen.Sumitomo Corporation and Nippon Sharyo previously delivered 96 subway cars for MRT North-South Line Phase 1, which began commercial operation in April 2019 as Indonesia's first subway.
