Albania, March 12 -- The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is extending a €45.75 million sovereign loan to Albania's state-owned energy company, Operatori i Shperndarjes se Energjise Elektrike (OSHEE).The loan will be used to restructure some of the €81.5 million in short-term loans that OSHEE obtained from commercial banks in late 2021, which it secured to support electricity imports during the period of surging global energy prices.The EBRD's support will aim to restructure the short-term loans into a more sustainable long-term facility along with existing commercial lenders, which will unlock capital for green investments, crucial to the company's modernisation efforts.
