RAIPUR, March 1 -- Chhattisgarh Police on Sunday arrested a 38-year-old man from Gujarat and brought him here on charges of cheating a Raipur-based wholesale trader of Rs 6.91 crores on the pretext of supplying sugar from Maharashtra in 2016.

Speaking to The Pioneer, Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Yadav identified him as Hitesh Madhu, Director of M/s Hinglaj Enterprises in Solapur in Maharashtra.

Wholesaler Akash Pungliya lodged a complaint that Madhu collected Rs 6.91 crores from him in multiple instalments as advance for delivering sugar but the promised consignment never came.

Madhu left Solapur and fled to Surat in Gujarat after knowing that Pungaliya had approached the police.
