India, Aug. 13 -- The Supreme Court's ruling on the issue of stray dogs in Delhi seems to have touched a raw nerve. On social media dog lovers are accusing the judges involved of 'genocide'. On the other hand, there are many people who have brought up the fact that there are 5700 deaths from rabies, primarily caused by dog bites, every year in India. This is a clearly emotive issue and also one that has an extreme social dichotomy as the poor suffer disproportionately from dog bites and rabies deaths. 'Community' dog lovers tend to be the well-educated chattering classes.
