Manila, July 12 -- The Philippines put up a great fight but came up short against Thailand, 7-13, in the semifinals of the Asia Oceania Confederation Cup at the Alonte Sports Arena here on Thursday night.

A four-goal barrage late in the first period set the tone for Thailand's breakaway from the Philippines, which brought the fight to the visitors in the next two periods, forcing a shootout the rest of the way.

Watcharapon Onsuk finished with a hat trick, scoring three goals in succession to lead Thailand.

Chusak Narkprasert, who completed a brace of his own plus two assists, the last of which led to Pitsanu Kannala completing his own brace, was named the best player for the team.
