Manila, April 18 -- The Philippine Army has strongly condemned the death of a 10-year-old boy in Las Navas, Northern Samar due to a landmine blast that the New People's Army (NPA) detonated.

In a statement issued Wednesday night, the Philippine Army's 20th Infantry Battalion (IB) based in Las Navas town lashed out at the communist rebels for victimizing an innocent child when the blast killed Armando Remolde, a Grade 3 learner of remote San Miguel village.

"They do not value the lives of civilians, especially children. This unit strongly condemns the atrocities perpetrated by the communist terrorist and will exert our efforts in coordination with the Philippine National Police to bring the perpetrators into justice," the Army said.
