The 9th Summit of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Head of States and Government Tuesday approved the renaming of the group to be now called the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS)

Outgoing ACP Secretary General Patrick Gomes told the media after the two day Summit ended in Nairobi.

"We could best be seen and eventually evolve and grow into something like the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"The dream if there was ever a dream is that the OACPS will be the counterfoil, the voice of the global South of developing countries, in the analytical work and in the policy making.
