Bhubaneswar, Dec. 5 -- An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 on the richter scale struck the Bay of Bengal on Monday morning, informed the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

As per the NCS, the quake occurred today at around 8:32AM in Bay of Bengal at a depth of 10km.

As per sources, the origin point of the quake was at a distance of 421km and 434km from Puri(EAST) and Bhubaneswar (EAST-SOUTH-EAST) respectively.

The tremor triggered by the earthquake was felt in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh at around 9:05am, Dhaka Tribune reported.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal, very close to India, an official of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department told Bangla Tribune.
