India, Oct. 21 -- Despite being priced almost double than Tata Tigor and Mahindra e-Verito, EESL plans to procure Hyundai Kona for Govt usage.

The preference for Kona was given due to multiple factors. Officials found the battery capacity, 452 Kms range, low running costs, and premium feel of the vehicle, too good to ignore. While the EVs from old suppliers like Mahindra and Tata had multiple quality issues which, as per the govt. the agency, are unresolved.

Previously many senior government officials stopped using Tata and M&M's vehicles citing issues like frequent sudden battery discharge, low mileage, and poor AC performance.
