INDIA, Dec. 4 -- The Union Cabinet, on Wednesday, cleared the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). The contentious bill which seeks to provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Christians, Parsis, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, will be tabled next week in the Parliament. "Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) has been cleared by the Cabinet," Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said during a press briefing. On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with representatives of student bodies from Assam and addressed the concerns of the groups regarding the controversial bill.
