New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- Reeling under political pressure, British PM Keir Starmer has recalled Peter Mandelson, the UK's ambassador to the United States, after his connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light.
The decision followed the publication earlier this week of letters and emails exchanged between Mandelson and Epstein, leading to Mandelson's withdrawal from what is considered one of the most prestigious diplomatic posts.
Speaking to the media, Britain's Foreign Ministry stated that the latest revelations "cast a different light" on Mandelson's relationship with Epstein.
Mandelson, in a statement, said he regretted his ties to Epstein. Growing scrutiny ultimately forced his withdrawal.
