New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- U.S. President Donald Trump will chair a high-level meeting on the Gaza conflict at the White House on Wednesday, amid fresh diplomatic efforts to end hostilities in the region.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff said Washington expects the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza to be settled by the end of the year. He added that the administration is finalizing a comprehensive plan to bring lasting stability to the region.
Trump, whose presidential term began with a two-month ceasefire in Gaza, made headlines earlier this year by proposing that the U.S. take control of the Gaza Strip, evacuate its two million residents, and redevelop the territory into what he called the "Riviera of the Middle East."
