New Delhi, Aug. 6 -- Exactly one year after the ouster of Bangladesh's longest-serving Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, on August 5, 2024, the country continues to struggle with widespread instability and unrest.
Hasina was removed from office following a massive student-led protest movement. Since then, the nation has been governed by an interim administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
The Yunus-led government has banned Hasina's Awami League party, drawing serious concern from global observers about democratic backsliding. Attacks on minority communities-particularly Hindus-have surged. Bangladesh's largest minority organization reported over 258 incidents of violence against minorities in the first half of 2025 alone.
