New Delhi, Nov. 19 -- Succeeding Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who retired and demitted office on November 17, Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde sworn in as the 47th Chief Justice of India.

President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, on Monday administered oath to Justice Bobde, 63, who has decided several key cases and was part of the recent historic Ayodhya verdict.

At a brief ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan, where Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, Vice President Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu and several senior ministers, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Vice President Hamid Ansari were present, Justice Bobde took oath in English in the name of God.
