New Delhi, July 6 -- On June 30, a rally of coal miners from the coal-mining regions of Donetsk, Lviv, and Volyn took place next to the Presidential Office in Kyiv. The coal miners are demanding the payment of salary arrears to employees of state mines, which currently exceeds a total of 1.2 billion hryvnias ($44.7 million). They also want the State Property Fund of Ukraine and energy companies to be obligated to fully pay arrears with state coal mining enterprises for the coal received.

There were reports of scuffle between protestors and police as the striking coal miners attempted to erect a tent outside the Office of the President building and the police removed the tent. These protests by miners are likely to continue in the next week...
