New Delhi, May 25 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the Northern part of India will continue to reel under the scorching sun till May 29 as the temperature is likely to go surpass the 45 degrees Celsius mark, for the next few days.

Issuing a heatwave alert for the National Capital and other states including Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana over the next five days, the weather agency said, "The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to touch 46 degrees Celsius on May 25 and 26 with severe heatwave conditions that will persist due to dry and north westerly winds prevailing over northwest India."
