New Delhi, June 26 -- "A unanimous step. Asia-Pacific Group @UN unanimously endorses India's candidature for a non-permanent seat of the Security Council for a two-year term in 2021/22. Thanks to all 55 members for their support," tweeted Syed Akbaruddin, India's permanent representative at the UN announcing the massive support by the 55 nations of Asia-Pacific group at the United Nations backing India's bid for non-permanent seat at UN Security Council for two years between 2021- 2022.

Including India's last non-permanent membership at the UNSC, in 2011 and 2012 after securing 187 out of 190 valid votes at the United Nations General Assembly, India has served as a non-member of the Security Council on seven occasions in past decades.
