New Delhi, Dec. 7 -- The eighth edition of the India-China joint training exercise - "Hand-in-Hand 2019" commenced at Umroi in Meghalaya. A 139-member contingent of the China's People's Liberation Army has arrived in Meghalaya for the joint military exercise.

The joint exercise will last for 14 days and is aimed at practicing joint planning and conducting counter-terror operations in semi-urban terrain, said the Defence Spokesperson, Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh. The Indian Army, in a statement, said, "Two tactical exercises scheduled during the training are counter-terrorism scenario and Humanitarian and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations."
