New Delhi, April 5 -- President of India Droupadi Murmu has formally granted assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, following its approval by both houses of Parliament earlier this week.

The Rajya Sabha, after nearly 12 hours of deliberation, passed the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 in the early hours of Friday with 128 votes in favour and 95 against. The Lok Sabha had already approved the legislation earlier in the week.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the move as a "watershed moment," highlighting its aim to address longstanding issues of transparency and accountability within the waqf system. He emphasised that the Act would safeguard rights and boost governance.
