New Delhi, June 17 -- US President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that he is aiming for a "real end" to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, rejecting the idea of a mere ceasefire after five days of escalating strikes. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he returned from the G7 summit in Canada, Trump emphasised that he wanted "better than a ceasefire" - a "complete give-up" by Iran.

"I'm not looking for a ceasefire, we're looking at better than a ceasefire," Trump said. "An end, a real end, not a ceasefire."

Trump also issued a stern warning to Iran against targeting US troops and assets in the region, stating, "We'll come down so hard, it'd be gloves off."
