Stock market today, Jan. 9 -- The Indian stock market indices crashed on Thursday, 8 January 2026, closing lower for a fourth consecutive session after a sharp sell-off from investors amid weak global market sentiment. The Nifty 50 index lost 1.01% closing lower at 25,876.85 points, compared to 26,140.75 points at the previous market session.

The BSE Sensex index closed 0.92% lower at 84,180.96 points, compared to 84,961.14 points at the previous stock market close, according to exchange data.
