New Delhi, March 17 -- St. Patrick's Day 2025 will be observed on Monday (March 17). It is celebrated annually on March 17 in honor of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
St. Patrick was a 5th-century Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. After several years, he escaped and later returned as a missionary, spreading Christianity throughout the country. St. Patrick is credited with converting the Irish people to Christianity and is associated with legends such as driving snakes out of Ireland and using the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. The day commemorates his death, believed to be on March 17, 461.
