New Delhi, April 18 -- The Punjab government is learnt to have decided to extend the detention of Khalistani extremist and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh under the National Security Act by a year, sources said on Friday.

Thirty-two-year-old Singh is currently lodged in a prison in Assam's Dibrugarh, and was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) after his arrest on April 23, 2023, a PTI report said.

The detention of Singh's nine associates was not extended by the state government. They had been brought back to Punjab in batches from the Dibrugarh jail after their detention under the NSA had ended. They were arrested in connection with the 2023 Ajnala police station attack.
