New Delhi, July 13 -- The Government of India, in its official social media account for Fact-checking, shared a post dismissing a message circulating over WhatsApp that claims that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked banks across the nation to stop disbursing Rs.500 notes from ATMs by September 2025.

The government announced that the country's central bank has not issued any such information to the banks, and the Rs.500 banknotes will continue to remain legal tender backed by the RBI.

"No such instruction has been issued by the @RBI. Rs.500 notes will continue to be legal tender," according to the PIB Fact Check post on the platform X.
