New Delhi, June 17 -- US President Donald Trump kicked off the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada with a provocative proposal: readmitting Russia to the group-and possibly even adding China. Speaking to reporters alongside Canadian Prime Minister and summit host Mark Carney, Trump said it was a "very big mistake" to remove Russia from the then-G8 in 2014 following its annexation of Crimea.

"The G7 used to be the G8.
