New Delhi, Feb. 8 -- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her Budget 2025 speech on February 1 that income tax will not be payable up to income of Rs.12 lakh.

The tax relief not only boosted middle-class spending power but has also seemingly influenced the economic segment's voting preferences in the Delhi Assembly elections 2025, the results of which are being announced today.

As things stand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading on 43 of the 70 assembly seats of Delhi, while the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was ahead on 27 seats. A party or alliance needs 36 seats to come to power in the national capital.
