New Delhi, May 2 -- Over the last 15 years, artificial intelligence-related patents have comprised more than a quarter of all tech patents filed in India, reveals Nasscom's 8th annual report titled, 'Patent Pulse 2025 - Decoding India's Ascent in AI Patent Landscape'. Here are some highlights:

From 2010 to 2025, India has seen more than 86,000 AI patents.

AI patent filings between 2021 and 2025 are seven times higher than in the first half of the decade. Of these, 63% originated in India, and 17% were first filed in the US.

Machine Learning (ML) dominates AI filings at over 55%, with Generative AI (GenAI) emerging as a key area of growth, accounting for half of all ML-related patents.
