Afghanistan, Sports, July 5 -- The Afghan batsman Ikram Ali Khil broke the cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing World Cup record during a match against West Indies on Thursday.

He became the youngest player to register an 80 plus score after making a debut in cricket World Cup.

The Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was holding the record since 1992 when he scored 81 runs against Zimbabwe in a cricket World Cup match.

Tendulkar had scored the runs at the age of 18 years and 318 days but Ali Khil managed to break the record on Thursday by scoring 86 runs at the age of 18 years and 278 days.

Ali Khil replaced Afghan opener and wicket keeper Mohammad Shahzad who returned to Afghanistan due to some issues.
