Afghanistan, Aug. 4 -- United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan commended the Afghan government's efforts in addressing corruption in the war-torn country but acknowledged that numerous shortcomings still remaining in this regard.

UNAMA issued its fifth annual report on corruption in Afghanistan and addressing the phenomenon by the Afghan government.

The UNAMA's report reads that based on the findings, Afghanistan has taken positive steps towards establishing a solid anti-corruption legal framework but added that several defects still remaining in this regard.

The report has covered the period, from January 2020 to May 2021.
