"The first International Widows Day, as launched by Lord Loomba and Cherie Blair, was observed in 2005, and by 2010 the observance spread to the United States, the UK, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Syria, Kenya, South Africa and Rwanda.
