MENDHAR, April 23 -- Two persons, including a police Constable, were electrocuted to death on Tuesday after their houses were hit by a surge of high-voltage current due to a snag in the electricity transformer in their village in Mendhar in Poonch district, a police official said.

Six other persons also sustained injuries while trying to rescue the duo.

Locals told KTNS said a constable (Follower) in Jammu and Kashmir Police identified as Faiz, 40, son of Mohammed Sharif and his neighbor, a civilian Mohammed Shabir, 38, son of Abdul Rahim died on spot after they came in touch with live wire, following an incident of short circuit in 33KV transformer at Chungan Chroon area of Mendhar in Poonch district early Tuesday morning.
