Indians fought for freedom from the British when their national sentiment was roused by the political leaders of the national movement
But then, how was a vast country like India subjugated by the shiploads of British who came across the seas? That was because Indians lacked the national sentiment, they owed allegiance to several princely states into which the country was divided and did not feel the need to defend the nation as a whole. It shows that lack of nationalism caused the loss of our freedom.
