India, April 15 -- The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has suspended its visa operations in view of the week-long strict lockdown enforced by Bangladesh government from Wednesday, Dhaka Tribune reported.

The High Commission made the announcement on Wednesday, hours after the Sheikh Hasina government began the lockdown and asked residents to remain at home except under mergency circumstances following the alarming spike in the Covid 19 cases in the country.

The Bangladesh government has shut all offices and public transport, including buses, trains, waterways, and flights, as the country registered its highest ever death toll, 96, on Wednesday.

The overall Covid death count has shot up to 9,987.
