Manipur, Feb. 20 -- Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday spoke in 22 languages at an event to mark International Mother Language Day in New Delhi. He called for a national movement and urged all citizens to protect and promote their mother tongue and learn other Indian languages for inclusive development and growth.

"When we protect and promote mother tongues, we protect and promote linguistic and cultural diversity also," he said.

The vice president also said that knowledge of Indian languages must be made compulsory for recruitment up to a certain level in government jobs.
