Bhubaneswar, Sept. 14 -- The Odisha Information Commission on Saturday barred an activist from filing Right to Information (RTI) applications before it for a year, citing "abuse of process" after he filed 61 applications seeking information from local bodies. State information commissioner Susanta Kumar Mohanty said that RTI activist Chittaranjan Sethy, a resident of Puri district, filed repetitive queries for information from Meteipur gram panchayat and the Nimapara panchayat samiti on month-wise and year-wise records of income, expenditure and development works. Disposing all 61 queries filed by Sethy, Mohanty, in his order, said, "The RTI Act or the Information Commission can never be an instrument to achieve such notorious objects of the appellants." "Though the applicant has the right to get the information under the RTI Act, 2005, he is also duty-bound to obey the law of land and deserves to be dealt with in a strict manner....
