Bhubaneswar, Dec. 7 -- A 17-year-old girl student allegedly attempted suicide in Odisha's Sundergarh district, police said on Saturday, adding that they have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly harassing her. Sundergarh SP Amritpal Kaur said that on Friday, the student had received a call before attempting to kill herself. "She was rushed to Rourkela's Ispat General Hospital. She is in a critical condition. Her family has alleged that the victim used to receive threatening phone calls prior to the incident. We have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the case and are interrogating him," Kaur said. The exact motive behind the girl's extreme step is still unknown. The SP said a thorough investigation is underway. This is the fifth such incident reported in the state in the past six months where women, and minors, tried to kill themselves.
