Bhubaneswar, July 21 -- The Internal Complaints Committee of the Fakir Mohan College in Odisha's Balasore formed under the POSH Act to probe the sexual harassment allegations of the 20-year-old student who immolated herself to death a week ago never recommended any punitive action against Samir Kumar Sahoo, the head of the department of teacher education who allegedly harassed her, a 9-page report of the committee, accessed by HT, revealed. Though two members of the committee two days ago had said the committee recommended transfer of Sahoo as he was being unnecessarily harsh and rude to students, the report showed that the 9-member panel praised the professor while dismissing the allegations of sexual harassment. The report, handwritten in Odia and signed by all the members including its presiding officer Dr Jayashri Mishra, head of the department of physics, said the girl was academically weak and that's why her father had requested Sahoo as well as professor of English, Minati Sethi, to help her. "The complainant remains absent in her classes most of the days and prof Sahoo has informed her father several times. Despite the head of the department informing the complainant's father...no improvements were seen. During the 4th semester, the father of the complainant had telephonically informed the head of the department about the reason of her low attendance due to deaths in the family and surgery of her mother. But without any documentary proof of the same it was not possible to grant any relaxation..." the report said....
