SRINAGAR, April 20 -- The rainfall across Haryana accompanied by storm at some places badly hit the wheat crop. Experts pegged the damage to the crop at about 10%. Though the agriculture department officials agreed that the rain hit the crop, they refused to quantify the same saying that special girdawari was on. "This survey to assess the damage to the crop will be completed with a week," Jagraj Dandi, joint director, agriculture (statistics), said. "In several instances, the crop kept in open spaces at the grain mar- kets was also damaged, besides in areas where the crop was flattened in the fields," a senior offi- cial said. Wheat is sown on about 64 lakh acres in the state with about 115 lakh metric tonne pro- duction. Damage was reported mainly in Faridabad, Jhajjar, Fatehabad, Karnal, Yamunanagar and Panchkula districts....
