Nearly 60K Delhi women ineligible for aid: Survey
New Delhi, July 2 -- A recent government survey has found large-scale discrepancies in the registration of beneficiaries under the Delhi Pension Scheme to Women in Distress, with nearly 60,000 found ineligible, officials said. In several cases, women were wrongly listed as widows despite their husbands being alive, or had remarried but failed to update their status. Conducted by the women and child development department in November 2024, the citywide survey also found missing credentials for many beneficiaries. "We have come to know that around 60,000 registered beneficiaries were not eligible. We have deleted the names of all such beneficiaries which will prevent the release of pensions to them," said a senior official.
The Rs.2,500 monthly pension is meant for widowed, divorced, separated, or destitute women above 18 with no means of subsistence. Further action is under consideration, he said.HTC...
