Sunburn vs sun poisoning: What's the difference?
India, June 10 -- Stepping out isn't unavoidable, even in this heat. As temperatures continue to rise, it is important to ensure that you don't expose yourself to the sun sans sunscreen and sun-protective clothes.

Sunburn treatment can be easily managed at home. However, if your condition persists for over a week or seems to worsen, it could potentially be a case of sun poisoning, and you may require medical intervention. Dr Naik cautions, "If you notice pus, yellow crusting, or swelling, this could mean your skin is infected and requires medical treatment."
Keep an eye out for symptoms such as dizziness, dry mouth and nausea. If not treated, they can lead to complications such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. If symptoms include fever, chills or vomiting, you may require IV fluids and steroids. People on certain antibiotics or those with photosensitivity issues may have an exaggerated reaction to sun exposure, and need personalised medical care.
