India, Jan. 30 -- Caffeine is one of the world's most widely consumed stimulants, known for sharpening focus and boosting energy. But when intake is suddenly reduced or stopped, the body often reacts, leading to headaches, fatigue, low mood, and difficulty concentrating: common signs of caffeine withdrawal. Caffeine withdrawal occurs when intake drops suddenly, boosting adenosine activity and causing symptoms. "It is not as severe as drug withdrawal, but it can still feel uncomfortable," says dietitian and diabetes educator Dr Archana Batra. "Mixing regular with decaf helps minimise withdrawal," suggests Dr Batra. Drinking water can ease headaches and fatigue. Walking, stretching, or yoga can boost mood, and counter fatigue. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep everyday. "A diet of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains provides steady energy and reduces caffeine dependence," says Dr Batra. Decaf coffee or herbal teas can provide comfort. Painkillers like ibuprofen can help manage headaches. Meditation, deep breathing, journalling, or gentle yoga.
